Historic Kilmun is delighted to announce that Visit Scotland have conducted a comprehensive Quality Assurance assessment of the newly opened Visitor Centre and renovated Argyll Mausoleum and have awarded a 4 Star Grade as a Historic Attraction. This places Historic Kilmun in an elite group of visitor attractions in Scotland and in Argyll; locally, Historic Kilmun joins Benmore Botanic Gardens in this exclusive group.

This award was given after extensive inspections and interviews by representatives of Visit Scotland; this award reflects not only the significance of the site, but also the careful renovation and conservation that has been carried out, and the quality of the visitor experience. This latter was based on the information provided, the layout and the quality of the guided tour on offer.

Visit Scotland encourages Historic Kilmun to use the award to maximum effect. Visit Scotland Quality Assurance schemes are highly regarded by consumers as a tool to assist in making decisions, and are a trusted source of information. The award will differentiate the attraction in the market place and provide customer reassurance as an official rating and accreditation by Scotland’s national tourism agency.

The Historic Kilmun site is currently closed for the winter season. It is planned to re-open for the summer schedule on Saturday 4 April. With the recent completion of the restoration of the Argyll Mausoleum on the Historic Kilmun site, all the components of the restored site will be available to visitors for the first time when the summer season commences. The Historic Kilmun visitor experience is supported and delivered by trained volunteer tour guides. We have opportunities for interested people to join as guides, either locally or from further afield, with a few hours to spend each week in this wonderful location. Volunteers are currently being recruited as guides for the new season. Full training will be provided; anyone interested in this opportunity is invited to contact Sue McKillop by e-mail at sue@jhdc.net.
